ABOUT BENZENE

Benzene is a chemical that has been tied to many different types of blood cancers, including leukemia. Benzene is described as "a colorless or light-yellow liquid chemical at room temperature." Benzene is not an ingredient in any sunscreen products, however traces of Benzene have been detected in some samples of the impacted aerosol sunscreen finished products.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Benzene is classified as a substance that can potentially cause cancer depending on the level and extent of exposure. It works by causing cells to not work correctly. Potential carcinogenic effects of Benzene exposure include, but are not limited to:

  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
  • Other blood or bone marrow cancer

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "Human exposure to benzene has been associated with a range of acute and long-term adverse health effects and diseases, including cancer and aplastic anemia."

TAKE ACTION

During an independent study an online pharmacy called Valisure "filed a petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), saying it had found levels of benzene that were higher than recommended in over a dozen products that provide protection or relief against sunburns, including sprays and lotions."

On July 14, 2021, Johnson & Johnson announced a nationwide recall of the below five aerosol sunscreen products. In addition, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS announced they would be halting sales of any products found in the Valisure petition.

  • NEUTROGENA® Beach Defense® aerosol sunscreen,
  • NEUTROGENA® Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen,
  • NEUTROGENA® Invisible Daily™ defense aerosol sunscreen,
  • NEUTROGENA® Ultra Sheer® aerosol sunscreen, and
  • AVEENO® Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen.

With countless people now stricken with cancer after using these products, many are turning to the courts and filing lawsuits to hold Johnson & Johnson® accountable.

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with cancer after using one of these products, you need to speak up! You might be eligible for financial compensation for your pain and suffering.
